An organised mess you say? Trust me, I´ve used that excuse before! But, lemme tell you, an organised desk space is defs one way to therapeutically make you feel more on top of your life. And who can say no to that? Here is a step by step guide to achieving that Instagrammable desk space that´s well worth the work x
Steps:
1. Remove and organise:
After removing everything from your desk and wiping it down (you´ll be so surprised how much dust collects under items..gross), organise the contents of your desk space into relevant categories (e.g. stationary one side, books another side, trinkets and random shit one side).
Then decide what needs to be on your desk and what can be packed into compartments. The most aesthetic items should be kept for display on the desk, whilst mismatched and random items can be categorised into compartments or holders.
2. Colour code it:

Choosing a colour palette would add such an aesthetically pleasing, finished look to your desk space.
I simple love the peachy pink themed pics I´ve been seeing all over Instagram and Pinterest. Matched with some gold touches, this colour palette can really be taken to the next level!
If you don´t have pink items, try pink flowers and some pink themed images to stick up on the wall above your desk.

3. There is beauty in the asymmetrical:
If you´re like me and don´t happen to have sets of items to make your desk into a perfectly symmetrical space, try matching items up that will pair well.
Try playing with levels of items. E.g: a vase of flowers one side, versus a cute large frame on the other side.
Cute little trinket items are also great for creating different levels and adding texture to your desk space. Stacking books up in piles can also add a nice element to the space.
4. A little DIY goes a long way
The frame you´ll see below in my desk´s after pic (further down) was actually made by me! I had this old wooden frame lying at home, which I simply painted white and wrapped with some fake flowers to add some texture and a pretty touch. I then tied some rows of pretty string and hung Polaroids from my 21st birthday across it (seen below).

I also made another frame before this one. I wanted a rustic wooden one, so I asked my dad to drill together some planks of wood along with a few screws on either end of each plank. I then gave the frame a rough paint and attached some string. I also got some super cute little pegs from Typo, which I used to attach my Polaroid pics to the string with (seen below).

DIY is super easy, but also adds such pretty touches to a space x
5. Maintain maintain maintain!
If you´re anything like me, you may struggle to maintain a super neat desk space, but honestly the best tip for keeping that space neat is doing touch ups every day. When you use an item, try not to simply chuck it back and create havoc, but place it back neatly ;p. Also, try not to allow clutter into the space, keep clutter and unnecessary items in specific storage units or in drawers :).
My desk transformation:
I don´t have a work space type desk in my room at home, so I use my chest of drawers to hold all my items on. Granted, this transformation is NOT a Pinterest worthy one, but I´m still proud when I look at the before pic...as you´ll see below lol ;p
AFTER

My process:
So the wall behind my ´desk´ is plain beige, which is hella boring, so I decided to place a frame on top of my book rack to fill that plain space a bit more. I do actually want to get more hooks put into the wall, so I can fill it with pictures and cute frames like you can see above.
I also recently got this pot plant from Wooloworths for Mothers Day for my mom, so I just stole it from the living room for the sake of this post lol ;p But such a cute desk plant adds such great texture and aesthetic value to the space. PLUS if you aren´t a fan of pink, they have a variety of other colours too, from white to orange and red!

As you can see above, I am defs more of an organised mess kinda person, BUT if I can get my shit together then so can you!
I hope you enjoyed this post, happy decorating babes!
